08 – Chimera

In My Happy Hats Gallery on February 5, 2012 at 4:15 pm

I really liked creating this piece.  Concentrating on the detail of the irregular tiles and the tail of this creature was an act of meditation.  I did it twice, once in pencil and the next while I was inking the illustration.  It was very cool to simply place main elements of the creature unconnected on the paper, then joining them with lines that seemed to flow on their own in curves and from one specific point of an eye, for example, to another from a paw.  The challenging part was choosing the colors.  I wanted bright colors, but wasn’t sure how to temper them so it wasn’t just a big blinding illustration.  I feel I did a good job.

If you like this piece, you will find note cards, or journals, or mouse pads printed with it in my cafepress store. If you’re interested in a poster or canvas, you can get it at my imagekind store.  You can also like the post or comment if you like the piece, you do not need to buy anything.  I would love to receive that feedback. You see, I have a personal  Art Challenge for this year and I’m working on it, one art piece at at time.

If my blog resonates with you and you know other people who would find it interesting, practical or inspiring, please share it with them by email, facebook or twitter. Sharing is the only way my writing will reach new readers. Thank you!

  1. Hi! I work with Jon at the library! Check out my blog too: I like your work. Keep it up!

    • Very cool! now we can stalk each other. I like the last one that you did, and I’ll probably ask you at some point to show me how to work with the guesso (sp?) I’ve seen it before and I’m curious. It is freaky that we both selected the same template for our blog. I was looking for simple and clean. I tried the Taco Bueno for a while, he he he. Too Bueno. 🙂

  2. Hahaha! I too was looking for clean and simple in a layout design. But I get bored so easily (Gemini) and am thinking of changing to a more fun design. Not sure though. My styles of art are all over the place! I like how you have a set look… a certain style all your own. I just can’t seem to settle on any one thing. But that’s mainly why I am doing this project, hopefully at some point to find a style/medium I really like and stick to that. Really like this one on your blog… so bright!

Please, tell me what you think about this post.
