Magnolia Leaves

I had fun working on this Magnolia Leaves piece.  It all started last Fall, picking up fallen leaves with my son, husband and grandma and learning to distinguish the leaves by their shape, whether or not they had teeth or how many lobes they had.  My son had kept a couple of magnolia leaves in the trunk of his trike.  And they found their way into my art room at some point last week.  So, I was sitting there, staring at the blank page of my sketch book when I saw these two leaves sitting on top of a yellow construction paper sheet on my table.  I decided to use them as my subject.  A still life of dry leaves.  Then I guess channeled my psychedelic self and the background came to life.  Yes, I wanted bright colors, fun shapes, how come then the center of the piece is sober and tempered in color?  I wonder what else am I channeling from the inside of my mind with these pieces? It looks fun, whatever it is. 🙂

If you like this piece, you will find note cards, journals, and mouse pads printed with it in my cafepress store. If you’re interested in a poster or canvas, you can get it at my imagekind store.  You can also like the post or comment if you like the piece, you do not need to buy anything.  I would love to receive that feedback. You see, I have a personal  Art Challenge for this year and I’m working on it, one art piece at at time.

If my blog resonates with you and you know other people who would find it interesting, practical or inspiring, please share it with them using any or all of the fancy sharing buttons below. Sharing is the only way my writing will reach new readers. Thank you!
